What you might want to know about NGA and ... ?
Aug 11th, 2023, 5:11pm

This week's TVBEurope 'magazine' (Aug 10th, 2023 edition) has an article entitled "Everything we know about: ADM-OSC, S-ADM and the delivery of next-generation audio".  [Not sure the 'we' includes us!]  https://www.tvbeurope.com/business/tvbeurope-august-2023-issue-now-available

However, ...

It consists of an interview (by Kevin Emmott) with the BBC R&D’s Matt Firth about how BBC R&D used the recent Eurovision Song Contest as a testing ground for 'next generation audio' (NGA), and where it might all go next.

It seems "There’s been a quiet revolution in television sound - and it’s all about the objects."  [Please, no further references to 'big, round, sphericals!]

Given the many postings that were made by various BBC Engineers on Facebook regards the audio from the funeral of HM Queen Elizabeth II and the subsequent audio events, leading up to the recent Eurovision Song Contest from Liverpool, I'm sure that many will 'enjoy' this article.

And then - in the same issue - there's another article ("All aboard the MIXBUS" , pp14 - 18) about the ESG itself, where Conrad Fletcher and Andy Tapley offer considerable technical insight into the hardware that was used to provide the Eurovision feeds from Liverpool.

"In his role as Sound and Technical Director of BBC StudioWorks, Andy Tapley is responsible for specifying all the audio equipment in the studios at BBC TVC, Kelvin Hall in Glasgow and Elstree.  He has chosen Studer Vista X consoles for all three facilities because he believes them to be the best for music mixing."
