Tony Rayner, who directed or produced many of Pebble Mill’s classic programmes, died on 1 October 2024.

Following National Service in the RAF, Tony joined BBC Midlands in the days of Broad Street and Gosta Green, working in videotape before moving to production.

He was best known as the producer of many “Pebble Mill at One” specials from various parts of the world, including a live programme from HMS Ark Royal in the Channel in 1986.

He produced many motoring programmes including the annual Motor Shows and Top Gear’s coverage of the Lombard RAC Rally.

Boating was a particular passion and he masterminded the boating series “Making Waves” and coverage of the round the world race “BT Global Challenge”.

He is survived by his wife Judy and two daughters.
